for series connection of capacitors the formula to find the equivalent capacitance is 1/c1+1/c2+1/c3...=1/c(eq) (same as the formula for equivalent resistance in parall). For parallel connection of capacitors simply add up the capacitances i.e. c1+c2+c3....

The effective capacitance of the combination is \dfrac{C}{n}.

Explanation:

The equivalent capacitance in series combination is given by :

\dfrac{1}{C_s}=\dfrac{1}{C_1}+\dfrac{1}{C_2}+....+\dfrac{1}{C_n}

n capacitors each of capacitance C are connected in series.

\dfrac{1}{C_s}=\dfrac{1}{C}+\dfrac{1}{C}+.....\text{n times }\\\\\dfrac{1}{C_s}=\dfrac{n}{C}\\\\C_s=\dfrac{C}{n}

So, the effective capacitance of the combination is \dfrac{C}{n}.
