Na +Cl2=NaCl.... can anyone explain that why cl has been given an atomic number 2 where as Na has none... pls help me out.....

it is not that cl has been assigned atomic number 2 ...but the valency of cl is 1 and that of na is also 1...but while experimenting...we dont find cl in elemental form ...but it is present in gaseous state..and hence we write cl2...instead of cl...as cl is a part of the halogen family or group 17 which is highly reactive and is present generally in gaseous state..hope it helps
