Ramayana teaches us how a son, wife, brother should be, how a devotee should be or a loyal servant should be. Hanuman was/is the greatest devotee of Rama. But when Gaya asked to save him, he just gives his word without even asking what the problem was. And when he knew Rama is go a kill him, he didn't step back. He fought with Ram n kept his promise. Who won doesn't matter. When Dasharatha was devastated of listening Kaikeyi's wishes, Ram didn't ask what were the wishes, he just said to his father, no matter what I'll just follow whatever that is and he didn't choke a bit when he heard the Kaikeyi's wishes, he was happy to get chance to follow parent's orders, he was so proud to obey them. But Ravana on the other hand though a great personality, he was a womaniser, abducted many woman against their wishes. This teaches no matter how great you are, once you do something against humanity, you become Rakshasa n if you don't realise it soon, you'll get worst possible end.
In a whole it teaches how to respect parents, elders n humanity.
Mahabharata teaches us how to do our duty as human being. There were hundreds of dear relatives on other side, Arjuna got sad, his hand shivered. But Krishna fighting not fighting is not in your hands, when the time come you've to perform your duty. It's your duty as human being to fight with Adharm. If it means killing to fight with unjust, you should do it. That is your duty. Leave everything else to God.

But both of them together teaches us about respecting woman, those who don't care about woman's respect should be punished.
