Answer:

Hey....!!!

Here the net charge on the molecules /atoms is....

NO2 = -1×6 = -6

Na = +1×3 = 3

Co = x

Now adding up them we get....

3+x-6 = 0

x-3=0

x = +3...

Oxidation no of cobalt is +3...

Hope this helps....

Oxidation Number of cobalt in the compound is +3.

Explanation:

A coordination complex consists of a central metal atom or ion bonded to ligands by coordinate covalent bonds. The ligands and the central metal together form the coordination sphere.

Na_3[Co(NO_2)_6]

Central metal atom : Co

Coordination sphere consists of 6 nitro ligands with charge of -1 each.The coordination sphere carries a -3 charge as the the coordination compound is electrically neutral.

Let the oxidation state of Co = x

Oxidation state of NO_2  = -1

∴ x + (-1) × 6 = -3

x -6= -3

x= -3+6= +3

Thus oxidation Number of cobalt in the compound is +3.
