Hello!
The reason is that area is inversely proportional to force so with increase in area force decreases and vice versa.
Using the pointed end of nail, force applied by us acts on a small area so it penetrates easily inside wooden block.

Because due to the pressure exerted by the pointed is very high ....A pointed end has small area of surface.....which exerted very high pressure.
