There are various types of microscope, I would tell you a few of them.

Light microscope: It uses visible light and lenses to magnify the object. A simple microscope uses a single lens to magnify while a compound microscope uses multiple lenses.

Scanning tunneling microscope is used to image objects at atomic level.

Electron microscope: It uses stream of electrons for magnification.

Dissecting microscope is the microscope which is used for three dimensional vision.

*Compound Microscope which is mainly used in schools and laboratories and have relativeley lower magnification power and resolution. They basically use light waves..
