Name 5 places named after shivaji maharaj (in today's India)
Answers
Answer:
After Shivaji, the other most popular historic figure is Mahatma Jyotiba Phule who has 16 places named after him. Babasaheb Ambedkar has 11, Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj 10 and Yashwantrao Chavan nine. Next in line are Mahatma Gandhi with eight, Savitribai Phule with six, Rajiv Gandhi with five, Indira Gandhi with four and Maharana Pratap and Swatantryaveer Savarkar with three places each.
Also while all these personalities have a road, place, chowk or a colony named after them, educational institutions top the list of the places graced by their names. Here, though Babasaheb Ambedkar leads all others with as many as 13 institutions named after him, Shivaji is second with nine followed by Mahatma Phule with eight and Yashawantrao Chavan with seven. Other common areas that are named after these figures are theatres, gardens, cooperative banks hospitals and even libraries.
"This is related with the social and political aspect of the city. Till about late 80s, Pune's environment was more culturally inclined than political and that is the reason that a number of places, roads were named after writers, freedom fighters, researchers in the city during or before this period," said Prof Vishram Dhole, a senior professor at the University of Pune.
The trend, said Prof Dhole, has, however, completely changed in the recent past and naming a place after a non-political personality has become virtually impossible. "In the recent times, the names given are primarily because of the political will and the capacity of the figures to create an impact," added Rajeshwari Deshpande of Department of Politics and Administration, University of Pune.
