Calamine solution contains a base called zinc carbonate:

  • Calamine solution either contains zinc and ferric oxide or zinc carbonate solution.
  • Calamine is a medical lotion used mostly when ants bite, as ant bites are acidic, calamine being basic neutralizes the acidic effect and the pain.
  • Apart from being used in insect bites, calamine also treats sunburns and other skin irritations. For example -  when the skin is infected by poisonous ivy or poison oak or whether it is just a skin rash.
