gold (Au) and platinum does not corrode in air as they are the least reactive metals and comes last in the reactive series

Noble Metals such as Gold(Au) and Platinum (Pt) doesn't corrode in air .

So now the question arises why?
The answer for the same is that corrosion is the process of enhancing stability i.e. formation of oxides or hydroxides on the surface of metals.
So if a metal is reactive like Al , Zn , Fe , etc ,it will react with the surrounding oxygen to form its oxides hence it corrodes .On the other hand noble metals do not react in ordinary conditions hence they are corrosion resistant.
