Nitric oxide (NO) is a non metallic oxide which is neutral.

There are basically four types of oxides :

  • Acidic oxide
  • Basic oxide
  • Neutral oxide
  • Amphoteric oxide

Now, most of the non metallic oxides are basic in nature. But, there are some exceptions also.

The non metallic oxide like, nitric oxide (NO) is neutral in nature (neither acidic nor basic), and that's why it comes under the category of neutral oxide. [Carbon monoxide (CO) is another example of non metallic oxide which is neutral in nature.]

Hence, the example of non metallic oxide which is neutral in nature, has been stated in the above mentioned discussion.
