The poem ‘Amar Desher Mathi’ by Bengali Nobel Laureate, writer, playwright and poet Rabindranath Tagore (1861 – 1941), awakens the feeling of nationhood in the reader.
In the poem, he showers gratitude on mother earth and his native soil for giving him all that is required for a good life. It has fed and watered him, blended his heart and soul with love and put up with all his tantrums. In the end, the poet wonders what he has given the earth in return.
