An Anti - Poverty Alleviation scheme for Rural Areas :
National Rural Employment Guarantee Act ( NREGA )
1. This scheme was passed in September 2005.
2. This Act provides 100 days assured employment every year to every rural household in 200 districts.
3. Later, this scheme will be extended to 600 districts.
4. One - third of the proposed jobs would be reserved for women
5. The Central Government will also establish National Employment Guarantee Funds. Similarly, State Governments Will establish State Employment Guarantee Funds for the implementation of this scheme.
6. Under this programme, if any applicant is not provided employment within fifteen days, he/she will be entitled to a daily unemployment allowance.
