Answer:

Hello Everyone,

I am listing six events of Indian History which i think were the turning points -

1) Dhananand insults Kautilya (4th Century BC) - Kautilya pledged to dethrone the Nanda king Dhanananda, he groomed Chandragupta Maurya who went on to become one of the greatest kings of India. This led to the establishment of first All-India Empire i.e. Mauryan Empire in 324 BCE.

2) Second Battle of Terai (1192) - Prithviraj Chauhan defeated Muhammad Ghori in the 1st battle of Terai (1191), but the very next year Ghori returned and defeated Chauhan. Ghori returned to Khorāsān and left the consolidation of the Ghūrid conquests in northwest India to his slave Qutubuddin Aibak. Aibak is the founder of Slave dynasty (1206) which is the first dynasty of Delhi Sultanate.

3) Battle of Buxar (1764) - The combined forces of Bengal, Awadh & Mughal King were defeated by East India Company. This battle was more decisive than the battle of Plassey (1757). British were now firmly in control of the richest province of India i.e. Bengal. The exploits from Bengal helped them to expand their empire in India.

4) Khilafat Movement (1919)- Gandhi supported Khilafat movement with good intentions of bringing Hindu Muslim unity though the movement had nothing to do with India’s freedom struggle. Post 1857 revolt, Muslims were perceived by the British as their bête noire. Some English historians also allege that 1857 mutiny was a “Muslim conspiracy.” Later on, the likes of Syed Ahmed Khan advised Muslims to focus on education in order to improve their credentials and get into Government jobs which were largely occupied by Hindus. It could be done only when they cooperate with the British. Gandhi’s support to Khilafat was an attempt to bring Muslims in the mainstream freedom struggle along with Hindus. Later on, Turkey under Kamal Pasha became a modern secular state which abolished the Caliphate. Gandhi’s support to Khilafat, unintentionally mixed religion & politics in India.

5) Independence of India (1947) and enforcement of the Constitution (1950)

6) NEP- New Economic Policies (1991) – The process of LPG (Liberalization Privatization Globalization) brought by the NEP, entirely changed the lifestyles of both urban & rural people. Indians got access to better product and services, the indigenous complacent firms were forced to wake up from their deep slumber after facing competition. They had no choice but to innovate and improve. These economic reforms also brought opportunities to Indians and it keeps growing with passage of time. Though, NEP also increased inequity.
