Name and briefly describe the components of blood
Answers
Answer:
Blood Basics
Blood is a specialized body fluid. It has four main components: plasma, red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. Blood has many different functions, including:
- transporting oxygen and nutrients to the lungs and tissues
- forming blood clots to prevent excess blood loss
- carrying cells and antibodies that fight infection
- bringing waste products to the kidneys and liver, which filter and clean the blood
- regulating body temperature
The blood that runs through the veins, arteries, and capillaries is known as whole blood, a mixture of about 55 percent plasma and 45 percent blood cells. About 7 to 8 percent of your total body weight is blood. An average-sized man has about 12 pints of blood in his body, and an average-sized woman has about nine pints.
Answer:
COMPONENTS OF RED BLOOD CELLS:
a. Red Blood Cells - Also termed as RBC, these are biconcave and circular in shape so that they can go through minute capillaries also.. The RBCs are responsible for transportation of oxygen throughout the human body (they carry haemoglobin). They are the smallest cells in the human body.
b. White Blood Cells - Also termed as WBC, these are amoeboid in shape so that they can squeeze out through the blood vessels. WBCs are germ killing bodies. They squeeze out of blood vessels during a germ invasion (diapedisis) and eat the germs (phagocytosis).
c. Platelets - Platelets are tiny blood cells that help your body form clots to stop bleeding. If one of your blood vessels gets damaged, it sends out signals to the platelets. The platelets then rush to the site of damage. they form a plug (clot) to fix the damage.
d. Plasma - A liquid called plasma makes up about half of the content of blood. Plasma contains proteins that help blood to clot, transport substances through the blood, and perform other functions. Blood plasma also contains glucose and other dissolved nutrients.
