Light beam formed by sunlight passing through :

  • Convex lens is Convergent Rays

  • Convex mirror is Divergent Rays

Sunlight represents a light source placed at infinity. Hence, rays from the sun can be imagined as paraxial rays.

In case of Convex lens:

Convex lens are converging in nature. Hence, whenever a parallel light ray comes from the Sun ,they get refracted from the lens and meet at the principal focus of the lens.

In case of Convex Mirror:

Convex mirrors are diverging in nature. Hence, whenever a parallel re comes from the sun they get reflected from the mirror and get diverged away. The backward extension of the rays meet at the focus of the mirror.

Definition of :

  • Divergent Rays : These are light rays which start from a single point and move away from each other.

  • Convergent Rays : These are light rays which start from different locations and move towards each other to meet at a single point.
