The root pressure is the pressure which pushes water from soil to plant. The water is continuously absorbed through root and pushed to the xylem where the excess of water in the plants cell are evaporated through transpiration.

Thus, when the water is reduced again water is pulled through root pressure in which ascend of sap takes place in plants.
