   This law was enacted by the Parliament of India in the year 1983 of the Indian Penal Code Section 498 A, and is a criminal law that states that whoever is the husband or the husband’s relative subjects a women (wife) to any kind of cruelty shall be punished by sentencing the offender for a term that extends up to 3 years in addition shall be liable to fine.

  This offence is cognizable that is arrest without any warrant, non-bailable and non-compoundable. Many women misuse this law against the husband, in-laws and their relatives by filing false complaints.
