Anterior pituitary gland has five types of cells:
1. Lactotrophs
2. Gonadotrophs
3. Corticotrophs
4. Thyrotrophs
5. Somatotrophs

These secrete the following hormones:
1. Secrete prolactin
2. FSH and LH (follicle stimulating hormone and lutenizing hormone respectively)
3. ACTH and MSH (andrenocorticotropic hormone and melanocyte stimulating hormone)
4. TRH (thyroid releasing hormone). Don't confuse it with TSH, which is a hypothalamic hormone.
5. HGH (human growth hormone)

Posterior pituitary

It secretes two hormones that are actually produced by the hypothalamus. These are
1. Oxytocin or pitocin
2. Vasopressin or pitressin or ADH (anti diuretic hormone)....

3. Thyriod stimulating harmone- it stimulate thyroid gland to release thyroxine.

4. Prolactin harmone- activate mammary gland to secert milk.

5. Lutinizing harmone- responsible for development of secondary sexual character.

6. Antidiuretic harmone- help in osmoregulation by kidneys

7. Adrenocarticotropic harmone- activate the cortex of adrenal gland to release cortisone.

8. Oxytocin harmone- cause contraction in muscles of utrine wall
