There are mainly three categories of forest:
1. Old growth
2. Second growth
3. plantations
Old growth forests also known as frontier forest are uncut forests that have not been
seriously disturbed by human activities or natural disasters for several hundred of years.
Second growth forests result from secondary ecological succession that takes place
when forests are cleared (by human activities or due to natural disasters) and then left
undisturbed for long periods of time.
Plantations are managed forests of commercially valuable trees. They are created
mostly by clearing old growth or second growth forests. Plantation promote
monoculture,concentrating on one or a few species.Being less diverse than natural
forests,they are more prone to disease and other disturbances
