Pahalgam Valley in Jammu-Kashmir

Belan Valley - Uttar Pradesh

Attirampakkam near Chennai in Tamil Nadu

Hunasagi Village in Karnataka

Explanation:

  • The paleolithic period is characterized by the early use of stone tools in prehistory. The areas where people lived became habitation areas. Cellars and rock shelters are included. These natural caves were chosen by people for protection against rain, heat and wind
  • A massive flake and a crude hand axe were discovered in 1969 in the Pahalgam Valley of Kashmir, which belong to the prehistoric era. Afterward in 1970, another excavation led to the discovery of 9 more such tools
  • The Belan Valley in Uttar Pradesh is such an incredible site that Pre-historic sediments and artifacts were found near valleys and river basins.  The excavations on this site, which were located on the banks of the Belan river, led the discovery of palaeolithic and neolithic artifacts.
  • Tamil Nadu State is the home of a village which houses India's most ancient known stone tools. Attirampakkam, a small town about 60 km from the town of Chennai, is believed to have contained the traces of the middle Paleolithic civilization.
  • Also near the village of Hunasagi, Karnataka offers a major prehistoric spot. The evidence of palaeolithic settlements lies in Shorapura Taluka. It is India's first paleolithic site with ancient limestone tools.
