hey there,
METALS:-
as all metals have the same physical and chemical properties (there are some exceptions).
PHYSICAL PROPERTIES:-
1. all metals are solid at room temperature except mercury, which is a liquid at room temperature.
2. all metals are lustrous.
3. all metals have high densities, therefore they sink in water. except lithium, sodium and potassium.
4. all metals are malleable.
5. metals are ductile and can be drawn into wires.
6. all metals are good conductors of heat and electricity.
7. all metals have high melting point except mercury.
CHEMICAL PROPERTIES:-
1. metals react with non-metals to form ionic compounds.
eg:- 2Na + Cl₂ → 2NaCl
2. metals react with oxygen to form basic metal oxides.
eg:- 2Mg + O₂ → 2MgO
uses of metals:-
1. used for making utensils, bridges, etc.
2. mercury is used in making thermometers.
3. copper and aluminium are used to make wires.
4. zinc is used in galvanisation.
NAME OF METALS:-
1) Gold
2) Silver
3) Iron
4) Copper
5) Nickel
6) Aluminum
7)Mercury( Liquid metal)
8) Titanium
9) Radium
10) Californium
NON-METALS:-
1. they exists as solid, liquid and gases.
2. they are non-lustrous.
3. most of the non-metals have very low density except diamond.
4. they are non-malleable.
5. they have very low melting and boiling point.
CHEMICAL PROPERTIES:-
1. they form covalent bonds.
H₂ + Cl₂→ 2HCl
2. non-metals oxides dissolve in water to form acidic solutions.
SO₂ + H₂O → H₂SO₃
USES OF NON-METALS:-
1. hydrogen is used in the formation of ammonia (NH₃).
2. carbon is used for making the electrodes of electrolytic and dry cells.
3. nitrogen is used in the fixation of nitrates
4. iodine is used as tincture iodine used for antiseptics.
5. chlorine is used to purify potable water.
SOME NON-METALS:-
1) Diamond
2) Sulphur
3) Graphite
4) Carbon
5) Iodine
6) Tincture
7) Bromine (liquid non-metal)
8) Phosphorus
9) Silicon
10) Boron
hope it helps...
