1. Fold Mountains

It is formed due to the folding of tectonic plates and this process is termed as orogeny.

Its formation takes millions of years.

For example- Himalayas, Alps, etc

2. Block Mountains

It is formed when the tectonic plates slide apart from each other leading to cracks on Earth's surface.

The raised block is called the horst and the lowered one is called graben. For example- East African rift valley

3. Volcanic Mountains

It is formed due to volcanic activity.

For example- Mt. Fujiyama and Mt. Kilimanjaro
