1 : Landholders Society founded in 1837 was the first association which preceded Indian National Congress. It was founded by Landlords and thus worked for their interests.
2 : Indian Association of Calcutta, founded by Surendernath Banerjee in 1876 was the most important association before INC. It was the first association which fought for all sections of society. It fought against Civil Service rules, arms Act and Vernacular Press Act. It tried to unite people on a common political program and therefore it is being called the predecessor of INC.
