The Aryans, during the Early Vedic Period, believed in amenism and did not believe in idol worship. Their religion was simple and there were no costly rituals and animal sacrifices. The prayers were chanted in the open. Some of the gods worshipped were Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh
During the Later Vedic Period, religion became corrupt and rigid. Temples were built, idols were made and idol worship began. Costly rituals and animal sacrifices began and became a daily routine for the Brahmins. They demanded high fees for carrying out rituals and made religion a complete monopoly. People started worshiping new gods like Krishna and Ram.
