Green house gases are those who contribute to the greenhouse effect, that is not allowing long wave radiation such as infrared radiation to leave from the earth's atmosphere, making the earth warmer. Essentially, The green house effect is necessary for life on earth, or else we would freeze and die during the night( I'm not kidding, the temperature can drop so low during the night) but due to increased emission of greenhouse gases, we are experiencing Enhanced greenhouse effect. That is what leads to global warming.
