The traditionally developed barley varieties are tall and weak-stemmed and by and large cabin even under relatively low soil fertility conditions.

Therefore, researches on varietal improvement have restructured the plant type to take full favorable position of the higher level of soil fertility and irrigation.

Some of the newly developed varieties are Ratna and Azad.
