Biomagnification stands for Biological Magnification. It means the increase in the levels of toxicity in the food chain.

The levels of contamination when increase in a food chain it is called Biomagnification.

It is caused due to heavy metals like mercury, Arsenic, DDT etc.

These materials are present in the environment consumed by smaller animals and when the animals in the upper level of the food chain consume the animals of the lower level the concentration of these substances increase in the upper levels due to repetition of the process which leads to Biomagnification.
