Neurons and nerve cells -

• A neuron is the longest cell of the body ( about 90-100 cm).

• Nerve cells are specialized for conducting information from one part to another part of the body.

• The information from the environment is detected by the nerve cells and are called neurons or nerve cells.

Parts of neuron -

• Cyton
• Dendrites
• Axon
• Nerve ending

Cyton - It has a central nucleus whose cytoplasm is called neuroplasm.

Dendrites - Dendrites may be one or more in number. It transmits the nerve impulses towards the cyton.

Axon - Each nerve cell has a single long part, named as axon. It transmits impulses away from the cell body.

Nerve ending - Nerve endings are the fine branch like termination of neurons.
