They are salt water and cover 2/3 of the earth’s surface. Seas are salt water and surrounded by land. Examples of seas include the Mediterranean and the Caribbean. Lakes are fresh water and inland. And example of a lake would be any of the Great Lakes such as Lake Michigan. Rivers are a moving body of water that moves from higher elevations to lower. Examples include the Nile and Amazon rivers. Finally, canals are always man-made and connect bodies of water. Examples include the Suez canal and the Panama canal.
