Plant defence mechanisms or host plant resistance are the adaptations of the plants for their better survival and reproduction by reducing the effect of herbivores on them. Plants can sense when they are touched and many plants produce secondary metabolites which influence the behaviour and growth of the herbivores. These plant chemical defences can act as toxins or repellents to herbivores.
