Members of the phylum Platyhelminthes are flat worms. Mostly parasites, acoelomate and triploblastic animals. No mouth, no true stomach structure. In tapeworms, direct absorption of soluble nutrients by cells and tissues. Liver fluke is a member of class- Trematoda of the phylum Platyhelminthes. The larva of liver flue is called miricidium and redia.
Platyhelminthes, also known as flatworm, refers to a group of soft-bodied, generally much-flattened invertebrates. Some of the species of the phylum are free-living; however, about 80 percent of all the flatworms are parasitic.
The phylum comprises four categories, that is, Cestoda (tapeworms), Trematoda (flukes), Turbellaria (planarians), and Monogenae. The members of all the categories in exception to Turbellaria are parasitic during part or whole of their life cycle.
Miracidium refers to a free-swimming ciliated larval phase in which a parasitic fluke goes from the egg to its initial host, generally a snail.
