Boron is non metal of boron family. It behaves as a nonmetal in reaction with sodium and a metal when combined with fluorine. Other chemical elements commonly classified as metalloids include silicon, germanium, arsenic, antimony and tellurium.its atomic no. Is 5.
Boron acts as non-metal when it reacts with highly electro-positive metals as Na, K etc. & B acts as metal when it reacts with F (to produce BF3). Again, like non-metals ,it forms boron hydrides(i.e. not like NaH/KH etc. but like CH4, PH3 i.e. covalent hydrides). Again,B3+ is an example of boarderline acid; B3+ shows “symbiosis” (BF3 is a hard acid & BH3 is a soft acid)——This fact also suggest that boron is a metalloid/semi-metal.
