The arteries are a kind of blood vessels whose job is to carry the oxygenated and purified blood from the heart to all the parts of the body. Similarly, the veins are the blood vessels which carry the deoxygenated or impure blood from the different body parts to the heart for purification.

However, there are exceptions in this category. They are called as 'Exceptional arteries and exceptional veins'. They are the Pulmonary arteries and Pulmonary vein.

Pulmonary artery carried the unpurified or the deoxygenated blood from the heart to the lungs for oxygenation. After the oxygenation in the lungs, the Pulmonary vein carries this oxygenated or purified blood to the heart.
