1. Fever:
The most well known drug for fever is "Paracetamol" found in every home. Overdose of Paracetamol may lead to hepatotoxicity and renal damage which can be fatal.
2. Pain:
Most familiar drugs used for combating pain includes Aspirin(Disprin), Ibuprofen and Diclofenac. The common problems associated with these drugs include-
Gastric/Peptic ulcer(Aspirin, Diclofenac, Ibuprofen)
Renal impairment(Diclofenac, Ibuprofen)
3. Acidity:
Antacids are widely used for 'Self medication' for the treatment of acidity but certain antacids are not safe to use. Antacids containing Sodium bicarbonate or Magnessium trisillicate can impose serious clinical implications.
Sodium bicarbonate and Magnessium trisillicate are absorbed directly into the blood and may lead to systemic alkalosis and renal impairment.
Antacids containing Aluminium hydroxide alone may lead to constipation.
4. Allergy:
Cetrizine is the medicine from which everyone must be familiar. This is the drug which has been taken by people randomly for the treatment of allergic problems in the body. Here I will like to draw your kind attention on some of the facts regarding the use of Cetrizine-
Cetrizine may produce Central Nervous System excitation.
Nausea and epigastric discomfort also can appear.
Use of Cetrizine can produce urinary retention which is harmful for Kidney.
