Staphylococcus aureus, a group of varieties which is collectively called Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, from which we get the term MRSA. People mistakenly call ANY anti-biotic resistant bacterium MRSA, but that is not necessarily so.

Saccharomyces cerevisiae, as mentioned by Arvind Singh, below. This yeast is what brings you beer, when used in fermentation. Also, yeasts are being used in medical and pharma research because they regenerate quickly, where one of the first organisms to be sequenced, and contain a nucleus (are eukaryotes).

The above species invade citrus trees to cause citrus greening or huanglongbing (HLB). This is interesting because the “Candidatus” term simply means that microbiologists have not figured out a way to keep these microbes alive in laboratory conditions, and have them propagate in controlled environments for deep study. It is also interesting because this disease is causing Florida citrus growers to shrink their yields, year-over-year, by 5% since about 2000.
