In chemistry, an amphoteric compound is a molecule or ion that can react both as an acid as well as a base. Many metals (such as copper, zinc, tin, lead, aluminium, and beryllium) form amphoteric oxides or hydroxides. Amphoterism depends on theoxidation states of the oxide. Al2O3 is an example of an amphoteric oxide.

Rohitp1: can u plz say me some chemical equation that shows amophoteric oxide reacts with both acid as well as base ?

some metal oxides, such as aluminium oxide, zinc oxide, etc., show both acidic as well as basic behaviour. Such metal oxides which react with both acids as well as bases to produce salts and water are known as amphoteric oxides.
Example;

Al2O3 is an amphoteric oxide. When reacted with HCl, it acts as a base to form the salt AlCl3. When reacted with NaOH, it acts as an acid to form NaAlO2.

Al2O3 + 6 HF → 2 AlF3 + 3 H2O

Al2O3 + 6 NaOH + 3 H2O → 2 Na3Al(OH)6 (sodium aluminate)

Rohitp1: Plz give the equation that show amphoteric oxide reacts both acid as well as base
