Answer

Nucleotide is a monomer that forms nucleic acid.

Nucleotide = Nucleoside + phosphoric acid.

❖ A nucleotide is composed of a Nucleoside and a phosphoric acid by a phosphoester bond with the liberation of a water molecule.

» Depending upon types of pentode sugar present, nucleotide are of two types :

(a) Ribonucleotides :

\diamond Adenosine + H₃PO₄ = adenylic acid.

\diamond Guanosine + H₃PO₄ = guanylic acid.

\diamond Uridine + H₃PO₄ = Uridylic acid.

(b) Deoxyribonucleotides :

\diamond Deoxy adenosine + H₃PO₄ = Deoxy adenylic acid.

\diamond Deoxy guanosine + H₃PO₄ = Deoxy guanylic acid.

\diamond Deoxy thymidine + H₃PO₄ = Deoxy thymidylic acid.
