when light ray passing from densier to rarer medium it always bends away from the normal due to increse in the speed of light but according to snells law if we increse the angle of incidence the angle of reflection will increse at a paticular angle of incidence call critical angle the angle of reflection becomes 90 degrees the light ray passes though the surface if we further increse the angle of incidence become more than critical angle the light ray bends back into the same medium this phenominen is called total internal reflection
