A cyclone needs a disturbance to begin, such as a storm system or an area of the sea with a surface temperature above 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Like all air movements, the storm will pass from an area of high atmospheric pressure to a low pressure area. High levels of humidity will help weaken a cyclone as its dry air gets caught up in the resistance caused by the humidity.
