Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was born in Cuttack in Odisha in 1897, graduated from Kolkata, and proved his mettle by becoming an Indian Civil Services (ICS) officer. But he was not happy with a life of comfort and amenities that came with his job. He was a warrior, who had to lead the freedom struggle. Not only did he take up the freedom movement wholeheartedly, but also became an inspiration for freedom. He started to awaken the country with the slogan “Give me blood and I will give you freedom”.
He developed the first Indian National Army (INA), 'Azad Hind Fauj' in 1943 and started an armed campaign and inspired thousands of Indian youths to join the struggle for independence from the British colonial rule. Such was the charisma of Bose's philosophy and personality that whoever listened to him was attracted to him. His popularity touched the sky and he became The 'Netaji' to the general public.
Martin Luther King Jr. (1929–1968):-
Well known American activist and leader in the African-American civil rights movement, Martin Luther King Jr. is famous for his role in the development of civil rights using nonviolent civil disobedience. Martin led the first African-American nonviolent demonstration with the bus boycott, which began in 1955 and led to the end of segregation on buses.
In between 1957 and 1968, King travelled more than 6 million miles and spoke more than 2,500 times, appearing wherever there was injustice, protest and action & authoring five books and numerous essays. King was the youngest man to have ever received the Nobel Peace Prize at the age of. He was murdered four years later in 1968.
14th Dalai Lama (1935–):-
Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th and current Dalai Lama, Buddhist monk and spiritual leader of Tibet was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989 for his nonviolent struggle for the liberation of Tibet. He has consistently commended policies of nonviolence even in the face of extreme brutality & aggression. He was the first Nobel laureate to be recognized for his concern for global environmental problems.
Lama has received more than 150 awards, honorary doctorates and prizes in recognition of his message of peace, nonviolence, inter-religious understanding, universal responsibility and compassion.
