Most metals from cations and most non-metals anions.

But some elements can form both - cations or anions under the right conditions.

One non-metallic element which is such is Hydrogen.

It can lose ( H+ ) or gain ( H-) an electron, forming:

hydride compounds - ZnH2     (anion)

hydron compounds -  H2O       (cation)
