In nature, it forms when meteorites containing graphite strike the Earth. Although in its natural form it is not as hard as a natural diamond, in lab conditions it does achieve a higher hardness level than a diamond by a few percents.
Wurtzite Boron Nitride - w-BN considered by scientists to be under certain circumstances harder than a diamond. This is actually the only non carbon material to achieve this hardness level. But again it is only under special circumstances.
