The acid-base indicator called LITMUS SOLUTION is extracted from lichens.

Explanation:

Dyes extracted from different species of lichens are mixed together to form a water soluble mixture, the mixture is then absorbed by a "filter paper" to produce a kind of ph indicator which we have been using widely to "test materials for acidity".

"Blue litmus paper turns red" when it is immersed in an acidic solution and "red litmus paper turns blue" when it is immersed in basic solution.
