Lead (Pb) has a melting point of 327°C & Tin (Sn) has a melting point of 232°C. Lower than the individual melting points of either of the individual metals , Pb-Sn alloy of a unique composition called as the eutectic composition (lowest melting composition ) occurs at ~62%Sn in the Pb-Sn alloy system & it has got the lowest melting point of 183°C , at this eutectic composition. This composition of the Pb-Sn alloy is used for electrical fuse -wire applications.

The alloy used for electric fuse wire is a Pb-Sn alloy of eutectic composition of Pb-62 %Sn , which melts at 183°C . It is called electric fuse wire.
