The Arab traveller and writer, Sulaiman wrote about the practice of Sati during Rajput rule.

Sati is a custom where a woman who has lost her husband, consumes herself to flames, on her husband’s pyre. The practice of Sati dates back to the 3rd century and continued till it was abolished by the British. The Sati Prevention Act of 1988 criminalises Sati and those encouraging it.
