The proteins present in dead animals and plants are converted into ammonia by ammonifying bacteria this process is known as ammonification. Ammonia is converted into nitrites by the group of nitrosomonas bacteria this nitrites are then converted into nitrates by the bacteria of nitrobacter group. This process is known as nitrification
