Explanation: The most important bile pigments are Bilirubin and Biliverdin.
Bile is a dark green yellowish brown fluid produced by the liver of the most vertebrates. It is continuously produced by the liver and stored and concentrated in the gall bladder. It is formed through decomposition of the porphyrin ring.
The most important bile pigments are Bilirubin and Biliverdin. The color of the bilirubin is orange or yellow, and whereas biliverdin (which is the oxidised form of bilirubin) is green in color. These pigments are the breakdown products of hemoglobin and they give bile and feces their characteristics color.
Bilirubin is created through the breakdown of red blood cells in the body. If the bilirubin levels are high it can cause jaundice. The excretion of this pigment is done by liver.
Biliverdin is a green pigment which is excreted in bile. It is an oxidized form of bilirubin.
