Well the black substance of pencil is known as Graphite. Graphite is a good conductor of electricity. This is because, like metals, they have delocalised electrons. Their electrons are free to move through the structure of graphite. Good conductors are those materials through which current can easily flow. So the sharpened ends of a pencil allows the flow of current in circuit when the pencil is connected to complete the circuit.
