The pulmonary artery, originating in the right ventricle, carries deoxygenated blood from the heart to the lungs (most other arteries, though, carry oxygenated blood), to be oxygenated in the lungs.

The pulmonary veins, terminating in the left atrium, carries oxygenated blood (most other veins, though, carry deoxygenated blood) from the lungs to the heart, to be distributed to the rest of the body.
