Winston Churchill was the British Prime Minister when the Quit India Movement took place. Lord Linlithgow was the Viceroy from 1936 to 1944. The Cripps Mission came to India in 1942. The Quit India Movement was also known as the India August Movement. It was launched on 8 August 1942 by Mahatma Gandhi at the All India Congress Committee's Bombay session. It demanded that the British should quit India and the British Rule should come to an end.
